The Credits Are Rolling at La Costa’s Longtime Movie Theater
Cinépolis says its longtime La Costa Paseo Real theater will close October 31. Its nearby La Costa Town Square location remains open.

If you've lived around La Costa long enough, you probably remember this movie theater by at least two different names. Soon there won't be a theater there at all.

Cinépolis is closing its six-screen La Costa Paseo Real location at 6941 El Camino Real on October 31. That's the one near the Carlsbad City Library.

Not the Cinépolis at La Costa Town Square. That one is staying open. Same neighborhood, different theater. An easy mix-up.

One Theater, Several Names

The theater opened in 1991 as Edwards Cinemas La Costa 6. UltraStar came later, and Cinépolis took over in 2011.

Thirty-five years is a long time for one movie theater. Long enough for people to remember what they saw there, who they went with and probably what they paid for popcorn back then.

Under Cinépolis, it had reclining seats, food delivered during the movie and a full bar. A little more comfortable than the old sticky-floor movie experience.

When Are the Last Movies?

Cinépolis told its rewards members that La Costa Paseo Real will close October 31, 2026.

If you're hoping to catch one more movie, check the theater's showtimes on the Cinépolis website before heading over.

The company didn't give a reason for the closure in its notice.

Where Moviegoers Can Go Next

The nearby Cinépolis at La Costa Town Square, 3434 Via Mercato, remains open. It has eight screens.

Cinépolis also has theaters in Vista and Del Mar. The company says rewards points, membership status and gift cards can still be used at its other locations.

So there's no need to rush out and use a gift card by Halloween. Just make sure you're going to the right theater.

A Familiar Stop Near the Library

The Paseo Real theater has been around since 1991. That's a lot of Friday nights, first dates and kids asking for the giant popcorn.

There are still places nearby to see a movie. But if this was your usual theater, you'll have to pick a new one.
